Cerise Bun : Bunched up vest alternative.

I put together in less than 5 minutes the other day and I personally am impressed. I am not going to pretend I am an outfit godess, I do usually spend a good amount of time in front of my wardrobe deliberating what to put with what. which is why when I manage to russle something together simply and easily and be as happy as I was with this little ensemble, thats where celebration is due!

Stolen magazines and broken down trains : Little life update.



Hello! I have decided that I haven’t done a general update post in a while, and because of my super busy schedule at the moment I haven’t been able to post, or plan a proper post to do now, therefore this is going to be a little catch up, just what I’ve been up to recently, some of which I would say is quite exciting!

So I was recently helping at the Northumbria open day, I loved this experience because this is how I chose the course I am now on, it wasn’t until I saw the work at Northumbria and spoke to the tutors and past students that I realized it was the perfect course for me. Therefore I wanted to be there showing my support for the UNI and my course and letting other really know what it’s about, I feel like I totally managed to do this and I got countless free cups to tea so that is always a bonus! I worked the two days but karma came around and bit me in the ass when I left the main hall and someone came and stole my 35th anniversary ID out of my bag.... BEFORE ID EVEN READ IT. I mean common guys that was my reading material for the train home! So I went home in my bright orange STUDENT WORKER t-shirt feeling might sour, well I exaggerate after about 10 mins I was able to get over the anger.. plus its all replaced and read through now so what’s the point in holding on to bad feeling ey?
 


 




















So the summer was a time where we were meant to be getting the most out of internships and work placements. The fashion communication course at Northumbria isn’t a sandwich course ( a 4 year course with a year’s placement) now this puts many people off as they think they wont gain experience within the industry.. However like I was discussing with countless potential students, although sandwich years are great.. They are not essential. What a lot of people don’t know when they think of a sandwich year is that you only have to work a minimum of 8 weeks in that year..... lots of people can’t even find a placement which will have them longer than 8 weeks, that’s 44 weeks you are at times left doing not a lot towards your career. This is why on the Fashion Com course we are advised to find placements through the two summers so that we are out into the industry a year earlier with a good few placements tucked nicely under our belts. This is a lot easier said than done and since I’ve been off Uni since May it’s taken me two months to finally feel like I’m getting somewhere and achieving something that is going to help me gain experience within the fashion industry.
Because I don’t know what I would like my future career to be (apart from I know I would like to write and take photographs) it is difficult at times to know where to search for work experience. I am now happy to say I potentially have 3 exciting opportunities on my horizon. I am thrilled to be accepted as a contributing writer for a new online counter culture magazine due to launch in September. They are called WILDABOUT and you must go follow them on instagram!

I have also managed to bag myself some experience working with a photographer for a local newspaper in the North East which I am so excited to start as I still don’t understand the camera fully and would love to get its full potential out of it!



Last but not least I am as nervous as I am happy about an interview for a PR company in Northumberland called Play the field, April who runs the business is a former Northumbria graduate who has gone on to set up her own business and is looking for PR interns. I was supposed to be meeting with her on Wednesday but due to all signals cutting out in Sunderland station we were forced to rearrange for a date next week. So that’s my busy lifestyle! What have you guys been up to over the last week, id like to hear about someone else’s routine and perhaps get a slight break from mine haha, Have a wonderful weekend everyone TGIF!

On the 26th of June 2015 history was made yet again as the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry in all 50 US states. That’s right equality for all and as a fellow gay I couldn’t be more supportive! We believe that love is love and it doesn’t matter if you’re black, white, male or female and we aren’t the only ones. There has been a massive outburst of support and celebration worldwide, and don’t fret you don’t even have to be gay to join in!


  

Celebrities and those of status have been known to use their fame to back up their believes, Vivienne Westwood rarely brings out a collection without an obvious political message at the forefront,  Russell Brand isn’t one for keeping quiet on his road to radical change and the celebrity support shown for the LGBT community hasn’t been quiet either. From Ellen DeGeneres and Kylie Jenner to J.K. Rowling and Cara Delavigne, Hollywood and the UK are illuminated at the news that same-sex marriage is finally legal, no matter where you live in a great majority of the world.  Like we believe ‘Love is love’ and Hundreds of celebrities took to social networking sites to share their elation and at times, emotional reactions.

Today is a big step in our march toward equality. Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else.

As the first black president turned the Whitehouse rainbow, realistically we’re sure many are furious, thousands from all across the globe came together to show their happiness, their support and their pride. It was monumental for the LGBT community to be proud of a country that allowed its religious extremism and suppression of minorities to overrule for so long. For years people have been afraid to show their true colours, yearning for their chance, and for their love to be completely legal! And now that time is here! The legalisation of same sex couples to marry in all states of America is a pivotal landmark in history, a day that everyone will remember for centuries to come and best of all we get to be a part of it! In the last month over 4,500 videos have been posted and shared, on YouTube, of same sex marriage proposals. That means there were over 4,500 couples who were waiting for the day they could be liberated and celebrated for who they are, and it isn’t just young couples who are benefitting from the new law. Jack Evans, 85, and George Harris, 82  having been together for 54 years and waiting over half a century, on the 26th of June,  they were able to say the most important words to one another ‘I do.’  And if the question is ‘do you love it?’ then we do too!


 

Despite the elation and the celebration however, we know to be realistic and its already been seen that prejudice isn’t going to be wiped away by a passing of a law, it is however going to be harder when people of faith apply their religion in ways that conflict with the new right to same-sex marriage. How do we stay quiet when a religious college provides married student housing only to opposite-sex married couples, or a religious adoption agency declines to place children with same-sex married couples. Maybe that’s just it? We don’t stay quiet..It’s clear that marriage equality is an issue strongly supported not just in Hollywood but all around the world because it stands for so much more than what it is. Could it be that in ten years time we will be writing to a public who are entirely equal in all aspects of life? Where the unimaginable is imagined daily? In reality we don’t know, but what we do know is that it’s our dream along with thousands of others and we will support it every step of the way! Just remember to love and life will be worth living.

Atisha Buddhist centre

This isn't going to be a long post because I am currently travelling back from Newcastle on the train. I've been to a briefing session about the Northumbria open day I'll be working this Friday and Saturday.  
I do the fashion communication course and absolutely love it! Hopefully I will be designated to my course because the main reason I want to work the day is to share with people people what an amazing choice it is, I've adored my first year but can't deny that it took a little convincing for me to be confident it was the right course for me before I started and I want to be able to give people the best idea of what it is they will be doing. No doubt however I will be stood somewhere on campus holding a big sign! But hey, at least I'm getting involved!
What I wanted to talk about however is the Atisha Buddhist center in Darlington, with my mum being Buddhist  (if I was to follow a religion it would be my choice too) we have always been involved with the community in Darlington, this is everything from fun days to going to meditation classes, nature walks and general events that surround the centre. The best thing about the Buddhist centre is anyone can go! So if you are in Darlington get you self down. Also the cafe is now open through the week as well,  just a generally lovely place to be, i will be doing a longer better post on the Atisha Centre soon so keep tuned. :D 

Amsterdam: Canals, Sex and Drugs

A fact about me : I love love love to TRAVEL :D.
I haven't been far during my short stay on this very interesting place we like to call earth, but since me and Sami got together 9 months ago we've been away three times already and thats just out of the country! I am adamant that our future will be packed with exciting adventures and cultures, because what can you learn or see from sitting in one place your whole life.... not a damn lot is my opinion! Recently I have just got back from the land of Canals, Sex and Drugs and honestly it isn't as daunting or seedy as you may think!

 Yes I've just got back from the wonderful Amsterdam, and to be honest it was nothing like I expected, I say expected but I don't really know what I mean by that because the place is absolutely bizzare. Not just because of the 165 Canals which are all within the city which is only 219 km² but just the overall culture and observing the way that different people live. This is my second trip to the Amsterdam yet both experiences were entirely different, almost as if I was in a totally new and different city this time round.

The weather was a huge factor in this, honestly it was scorching, which wasn't the best thing in the world when your suffering from a stomach bug you caught 2 nights before your holiday, which carried on whilst there even though... IT WAS YOUR BIRTHDAY! Yes you heard me being violently sick in the lovely city of Amsterdam at 4 on the morning of your birthday.. only I could be so lucky! Despite the sickness though nothing could have ruined the amazing experience of Amsterdam in the summer and i still had the most amazing birthday thanks to my amazing friends bloody fantastic girlfriend! and of course the infamous 'Iberogast' which we now know is in fact banned from the UK, thanks guys :P :D!!


 FACT : there is 400 km of bike path throughout the city and I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess to how many bikes are flying around. My main piece of advice.. Watch out. Not only do the bike roads look like paths but the bikers have absolute priority on the roads throughout the city. But don't worry because you never get tired of the different varieties of people using this form of transportation. one of my favorite games to play outside the waterfront hotel was spotting the different people on bikes and where they might have been going in the strange often restricting outfits of choice.



We were there for 4 days and 3 nights and absolutely shattered by the end of it, but still never ready for the culture shock of going back home. Its as if the people over there have a completely different outlook on life, the bikers may be crazy but the few I collided with simply brushed it off with a sorry and a smile. We even witnessed two bicycles at one point completely collide into one another due to one of the riders not paying attention to where he was going. In England this would warrant at least a rude gesture or a few nasty names, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if there was a brawl on the streets over who was at fault, but in Amsterdam it was as if road rage wasn't a thing. Of course this could be completely misconstrued due to the constant hazy and happy feeling you tend to be overwhelmed with when you get into the more well known cultures of the city.

Which leads me onto the Coffee Shops! Something which despite your feeling and opinions at home, when in the mighty Dam it would be silly not to explore! not even to have a smoke yourself but just to embrace and observe the way that people live. It's funny because the working day dutch community don't tent to be sat in the coffee shops when your there and you of course tend to see other tourists such as yourself , but it is interesting to see how the city has managed to create such a culture from cannabis, we have out usual stops when we go, however what i can say from febuary to June is the staff have seemed to get less and less patient with the tourists. Of course this could completely be down to the hussle and bussle and the sheer amount of people in the peak seasons, I think I may become a little grumpy myself if I had to work!


Finally what Amsterdam is known for, the sex industry. Our hotel was just by the canal front next to the floating flower gardens, but also not that far from sexy land! We ventured through a few times as this is where you find all your sex shops, and museums like the torture museum, the erotic museum and the museum of prostitution, which are all around 7 euros. We left the museums to the last day so we knew how much we had to budget ( and didn't have to worry about going to too many and wasting money we needed for the other days) Of course they are only tiny as Amsterdam doesn't seem to have a building of normal sized capacity, but as long as you aren't with your parent ( because you will see a lot of lady parts, especially in the erotic museum) they were all worth a look around. But of course we also walked down the alleys past the windows where the girls or at times 'girls' were winking shouting and generally presenting themselves to the public walking by, something which is interesting to witness so openly and throughout the daytime too! I was more shocked by  the windows with the blue lights because i'll let you in on another secret (They have both!!!) and we witnessed a gentleman or not so gentleman tapping on the window to be let in!  however photo's are not to be taken and they are really quite strict about it, so it really wasn't worth risking!


Amsterdam however despite how openly erotic and sexual it is in certain places, is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities I've ever been to. As long as you are in a comfortable relationship. where you feel you can walk through or past sexy land without jumping through the glass windows and attacking the girls for looking at your lady, then it is the perfect retreat for you and your other half. Amsterdam has been called the Venice with trees and there's plenty as a couple that you can do. You can sail the canals go visit the beautiful vondelpark; shade yourselves and relax under canopy's of green, then dine by candlelight, looking out over the canals and fairy-lit bridges. There are endless paintings and street art to lose yourself in, comfy cafes to dream away the afternoon, basically enough and plenty to warm the heart. And the best thing is it’s all cosy and small-scale, so no time wasted on stressful getting about – just gentle strolls, quiet moments, and each other.
