I’ve been thinking over how to filter what I post on my
blog, and as I am only just starting out I haven’t really found a direction so
far.
I have decided that I would like to share my insight on Fashion and Beauty and the pressing matters related to them right now, but I would also like to make more
personal posts about my activities and lifestyle, So to ease you all into it I thought I would
do a quick 5 facts about myself:
1. My name is Charlotte Rose Doherty
2. I have been with my amazing girlfriend Sami for just over
8 months now and we are constantly on the move, it will be nice to post and
share our adventures and stories on my blog as there are so many and it’s so
easy to let memories get lost in the past!
3. I am a student at Northumbria University; I am studying
Fashion Communication and absolutely love it (I will write a post about the
course later on!).
4. I am a passionate photographer, I just need a little more
inspiration and motivation to get out and get stuff done, but I would certainly
love it to be an aspect of my future career some day.
5. Last but not least and certainly extremely
important...... Cheese is certainly my favourite thing ever, I could eat it all
day long and that is no exaggeration!
On May the 13th I had one of the most amazing opportunities
yet, which was to help out at the Northumbria Graduate Fashion Catwalk Shows
held at the Baltic Center for Contemporary Art and it was absolutely fantastic.
I was given several different responsibilities, including speak and greeting
some really important guests, checking tickets and generally just making sure
the show ran smoothly throughout the whole process and in all aspects of the
day.
As this was my first
Fashion Show experience ( and I didn’t get any advice from anyone prior) I wasn’t
the best prepared I could have been, Therefore to avoid angry stomach’s and
overheating, here are my 5 steps to a smooth Runway experience.
1.
Appearance – Although it may sound vain
this is of course the fashion world and appearance although not everything can
be your make or break.
The dress code for helpers was ‘Smart’ I didn’t
want to go for the usual or safe version of all black and so I chose some
leather look leggings from Zara and a loose Pin Stripe blue and white shirt
which I then paired this with some bright red lipstick.
2.
Arrive Early! – You should always make
sure you are backstage at least 10 minutes before the time you are asked to.
Although the Email might say meet at 12, make
sure you are early! Everyone else have the same idea and it doesn’t look good
strolling in last no matter how prompt you are, however don’t take this too
far, no one wants to see a face an hour before is necessary as you are trying
to be helpful not get in the way!
3. Keep quiet and considerate backstage! – You
need to make sure that you are not loud enough for the audience to hear.
It’s certainly harder said than done when all
you want to do is shout with excitement about the whole experience, but remember
everyone has their eyes open today and if you want to be invited back to help
again you need to keep volume levels all the way down, anyway this gives you
more to talk about after the show!
4. Be polite to everyone – You never know who
they could be.
This is a biggie! You never know who you are
directing, or who’s tickets you are checking, that could be a big name in the
industry, a photographer or editor or it could just be your average watcher,
either way you need to make sure that you have your whit’s about you, it doesn’t
matter how rude they may seem, one complaint about you to whoever is organizing
the event could have you black listed!
1. Bring water and snacks – You most likely
will not get a break.
I cannot stress the importance of this point
enough!, it is so important to keep hydrated to always make sure you have some
water with you, the show I attended had bottles provided, but you never know so
always pack one. When I comes to food, imagine primary school
I’m always getting bored.
And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one.... Bored of boring
brands who keep on producing same old same old, but every so often I run across
something which really excites me, and therefore to avoid anymore drooping eyelids
or palm marks of foreheads I am going to share this find for those of you who haven’t
found it yourselves!
ANNA K. Began her journey in the fashion world when she was
only 16 as a model and has now managed to build and create a new world of Anna
K. She has taken Fashion from the catwalk and transferred it to the streets and
it can’t be denied, even by Anna herself, that the brand became successful for
its unique mix of “fun & cool” together, but essentially street style is
what fueled her break to success.
She was praised at the Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days by
Italian Vogue when they saw her first collection and that is where her story
began. Anna has now shown her collections three seasons in a row at London
Fashion Week and is represented on the main International Fashion Trade shows. Her collections are just eye catching. Simple tee’s
with interesting contents has got her souring to the top on the Fashion success
ladder.
Without a doubt Anna K is a name that will continue to get bigger and bigger, she think about the consumer as a person and as an everyday person. She wants the public to be wearing her designs and therefore the public want to in return! Her designs are photographed in street style blogs from all over the world as she has her clothing in some of the biggest stored internationally placed around the globe. One of those stores being worldwide known retailer Lane Crawford.
Why it is so important for the brand?
Lane Crawford is a big retailing company with stores selling designer
label luxury goods in Greater China and online. It has nine points of sale
with more than 585,000 square feet of total retail space, including
three multi-brand luxury department stores in Hong Kong, two in Beijing,
one in Shanghai, one in Chengdu, two Lane Crawford Home stores in Hong
Kong specializing in designer furniture and lifestyle accessories, and
an online store.
So you heard it from me first, okay? Anna K is a young and talented name who is definitely one to look out for!
